Margaret Wheat is the principal of our firm. She has practised law since 1979.
She attended the University of Alberta attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1974 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1978. Margaret practised law in Lloydminster and then in Vermilion before establishing Wheat Law Office in December 1989. Although she is a general practitioner, Margaret’s preferred areas of practice are wills, estates, elder law, family law and real estate.
Margaret has extensive training and experience as a collaborative lawyer and is a qualified mediator. She frequently works with negotiation-based settlements.
Wheat Law Office has a branch office in the village of Marwayne, where Margaret has regular Friday office hours.
Tamala graduated from the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Law in 2005 and became a member of the Law Society of Alberta in July 2006. Her first degree was in Physical Activity Studies with an Adapted major which focused on adapting and providing services to individuals experiencing physical, cognitive, psychological and emotional challenges.
After law school, Tamala began her legal career in a general practice environment working on wills and estates, corporate/commercial law, real estate and contract-based litigation matters. Corporate work in the oil and gas sector followed, as did extensive advocacy work within a quasi-judicial settlement process involving civil assault claims and the Government of Canada. Her current practice at Wheat Law Office represents a culmination of her legal experience and includes the following areas of law:

Although she encourages clients to negotiate or mediate disputes whenever possible, court intervention is sometimes unavoidable; when that happens, Tamala can assist you with your family and civil litigation matters. Having received her Qualified Arbitrator designation in 2015 from ADR Canada, Tamala can also act as an arbitrator in contract and property related disputes.

Joshua grew up in the town of Lac La Biche, AB. After graduating from J.A. Williams High School, he attended the University of Alberta and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts (major in Sociology, minor in Psychology). He then attended the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law and received his J.D. in 2014. He began his articles with Wheat Law Office in December 2014 under the tutelage of Margaret Wheat. Joshua was called to the Alberta Bar on January 15, 2016.
Joshua’s main areas of practice are family law, real estate, collections, wills, corporate law and commercial law.
In his spare time, Joshua dabbles in various hobbies such as cross-country running, wakeboarding, golf, guitar and winemaking.
During his time at the University of Alberta, Joshua was involved in various volunteer and philanthropic opportunities. Joshua is always willing to volunteer and be a helping hand in the community, and he looks forward to growing with the town of Vermilion.
